More Space Pirates!

Once again, I find myself drawing space pirates!

Many of these will find their way into a Thing that is percolating in my mind, while I’m actively working on a Different Thing.

I’ve been putting some thought into refining and standardizing my coloring process, to improve consistency across a work, instead of trying something different every time.

Hopefully that will also give me more flexibility to use different visual styles for different narrative functions.
(Kind of an expansion of how different characters memories/flashbacks are in different hues in The Klondike Imposter.)

It turns out I prefer to think in terms of value first (how light or dark something is) and then add hue afterwards – like I did with this lil’ angry dude.

Realizing that helps me to make sense of why I often prefer to take photos in black and white, even if I’ll then develop them in color later.
